I was down in Wiltshire a couple of weeks ago for Piriyah & Will’s wedding reception after their wedding at Keiss Castle (more to follow on their wedding later). While I was there Piriyah kindly gave me a lift to Avebury to see the amazing stone circles there while she was heading out somewhere. It was a great site, seeped in history and I enjoyed my wander around. However it was quite dull, and eventually the heavens opened, forcing me into the only pub in the village (Red Lion I think) for shelter while I awaited my lift back to where I was staying.
The rain turned out to be the best thing that happened as the real entertainment started then. I sat in the bar having a few glasses of wine (a few too many actually) and watching the people who were there. I can honestly say I haven’t laughed so much in a long time as one after another amazing character appeared in the bar, each one different in many ways but equally entertaining. The absolute highlight was the guy who was the spitting image of Robin Gibb from the Bee Gees. Well he would have if Robin had let himself go a bit on the cleanliness side of things. He was chatting to everyone as if they were his best friend, but the best part was his conversation with a Dutch couple about his ferret, which had allegedly been murdered outside a supermarket. He then uttered the immortal words, one of the finest sayings I have heard in a very long time. I quote “Yeah, it was two days ago tomorrow”. I almost fell off my barstool laughing.
Just when I thought the day couldn’t get more random a wedding party arrived with the bride and groom in very unusual and very cool outfits. After chatting to the bride Sonya it turned out they had been married at Stonehenge in the middle of the stones at 7am that morning. It also turned out they hadn’t had any official photographer. So, the conversation ended with her now having a photographer, albeit slightly drunk, and a different stone circle site. The only problem was that the groom had gone away with his friends briefly, so we had to do a bridal shoot. What fun! The rain had just cleared and the sky was brilliant.
A really random day, and one of the funniest ever. Only sad part is that I never got the Robin Gibb lookalike’s photograph as he is a legend in my eyes.
