Wedding Photographer Grantown On Spey – Eilidh and Stuart

Still slowly catching up on last years wedding blog posts. This was a lovely wedding in Grantown on Spey, with the reception at the Newton Hotel in Nairn.

Eilidh got ready at her parentshouse before arriving in style at the church. The rain threatened to spoil things with a shower hitting us just as she arrived, however the rest of the day was lucky and stayed dry. It was a fun shoot down at the river after church, before heading to nairn for a fun set of speeches and a great dance.

Engagement Photographer Highlands – Pre wedding shoot at Evanton. Kylie and Will

Kylie and Will are getting married this summer at Evanton, and were up visiting last month and we had a fun pre wedding shoot in a few different locations nearby. It was very windy but sunny and we had a great time. Looking forward to photographing their wedding in the woods.

If you are getting married why not book an engagement shoot, with no obligation to use us for your wedding. Get in touch to find out more!

Engagement Photography/Pre Wedding Shoot Damian and Alison at Beauly

Alison and damian came up to Beauly for their pre wedding shoot recently and we had some fun around the old Priory on a very sunny but cold afternoon.

The couple get married this summer and I can’t wait to be part of it:)

Commercial Photographer Inverness – Bygone Drives shoot, Aldourie Castle.

I was recently commissioned to shoot some publicity and marketing photographs for local car firm Bygone Drives. The shoot took place at the amazing Aldourie Castle, on the banks of Loch Ness. Dress to Impress in Inverness provided wedding dresses for the models, Mairi, Amy and Sophie, and we also had some hats and capes from K’outure

The weather was really grim and it rained heavily most of the day, however we managed to get what we were after.

Strictly Come Dancing Inverness

As many of you will know, I have been picked as one of the dancers for Strictly Inverness this year, and am currently doing three dance lessons a week in preparaion for the 10th May show.

Why? Well my good friend Amy Mullen suggested I audition for the show, and I was lucky enough to be chosen from that. I know a few people who took part last year and it looked amazing! It’s all for charity with money going to The Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre. The Highland Hospice is a wonderful charity and this is one of their biggest annual fundraisers. I have to confess that Strictly is one of the few TV shows I ever watch, and I love it. I have secretly always held a desire to learn to dance, particularly some of the latin styles, so this has helped me achieve this!

When? The event is over 4 days, Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th May 2013, at Inverness Ice rink. Thursday night is launch night, with a fashion show and the two dance groups perform their group dances in front of the audience. Friday 10th is my night. There are 9 couples on the Friday night and we all do two routines as a couple, and one group dance, like the tv show at the beginning. Saturday night sees another set of dancers go through the same format. Sunday is a childrens version of the event.

Who? I will be dancing with Lorraine O’Brien. We have been practicing together for 6 or 7 weeks now and getting on great. It’s so hard learning something so new and different to anything I have done before. I have been kindly sponsored by Perfect Manors, which is the business that owns Achnagairn House, one of my favourite wedding venues, and just along the road from me in Kirkhill. This sponsorship covers the cost of our clothes and shoes…yes, shoes!

So, on to the dancing. I must admit, it was all very well being asked to do it, but the first meet up of the dancers caused a wee bit of panic, which I think was felt by a number of those chosen. The first couple of dance classes were nerve wracking, and a real worry. It’s one of those “what have I let myself in for?” moments. The eyes and brain can see what you have to do but don’t quite seem to be able to pass that message on to the rest of the body below the neck. All sorts of thoughts going through my head now about making a fool of myself in public, but after a few lessons the legs start to behave a bit better. Okay there is no resemblance whatsoever to a ‘real’ dancer, but at least i am remembering to put one foot in front of the other, haven’t injured myself, and more importantly haven’t injured Lorraine either. As the weeks go by I am definitely improving, albeit slowly. But most of all I am really enjoying it. I love it! I’m now so glad I went for it, and no matter what happens on the night I know it’s going to be amazing, and I also want to keep it going beyond May if I can find anyone willing to join me!

I am doing fundraising at the moment, as we all have a commitment to raise at least £500 each. I am going to do something specific nearer to the time but in the meantime sponsors can donate a few £ on my just giving online page - http://www.justgiving.com/John-Baikie Any amount is welcome, no matter how big or small. It’s a great cause!

I will be updating this as we get closer to the time of the big night, so keep checking back for updates!

This is a special signed photo which TV Strictly stars Vincent and Flavia sent to Lorraine supporting us in the event!

New Website Goes Live

Due to some big changes in the way the business operates, two new websites are being built at the moment. We are in the process of rebuilding the Captiv8 one which will house all non-wedding photography work, while the John Baikie Photography one has gone live again with all the information you need about wedding photography.

If you want any of our other specialist services please get in touch, and the website will go live soon!

Wedding Photographer Inverness – Eden Court Theatre. Natalie and Colin

Natalie Rattray and Colin Bradley chose the unusual but very cool venue of Eden Court Theatre Chapel for their wedding. Until then I didn’t even know there was a chapel in Eden Court! What a cool venue though. Beautiful old building. Amazing wee chapel, gorgeous staircase, and lots of funky stuff nearby to use for photography. Natalie and her bridesmaids and wee flower girl (who ended up being my assistant for the day voluntarily) got ready at the Columba Hotel before heading round the corner to the theatre. There was then an emotional ceremony with lots of tears. It was a wet day, but we got a break in the weather at just the right time and the sun came out for the photo session! It was then on to the Mustard Seed for a meal, then Hush nightclub for the reception. A very different day but lots of fun!

Wedding Photography Inverness – Drumossie Hotel. Caroline and Stuart

Caroline Cumming and Stuart Reedie got married at Inverness Cathedral and had their reception at the Drumossie Hotel on this beautiful sunny day. The day began with Caroline getting ready at the Drumossie, before we headed down to the Cathedral, which is a fantastic location. It is a bit awkward to photograph weddings there, so if anyone decided to design a new one, please give me a shout so I can recommend where to put pillars:)Seriously though it was a lovely ceremony and then we headed to Culloden Battlefield for some amazing images in the bright sunshine. I love shooting in these conditions – happens all the time in Scotland!

After Culloden we headed back to the Drumossie where I left them to enjoy the rest of the evening. Another fantastic ‘I love my job’ sort of day:)

Wedding Photography Inverness – Cawdor Church. Lesley and Andrew

This wedding was a return to the lovely Cawdor Church near Inverness, for Lesley and Andrew’s big day. It was an absolutely gorgeous day as we started off at the Drumossie Hotel where the couple both had rooms to get ready in. After a lot of fun we headed to Cawdor, where they had a lovely ceremony in this great wee church. We then took the couple to Culloden to do some pictures at the railway viaduct and at the Culloden battlefield. We then headed back to the Drumossie for the reception. What a fun day.
