Wedding Photography Dunrobin Castle – Nicola & Derek

Another wedding at one of my favourite locations in the entire country, Dunrobin Castle.  Nicola Kemp and Derek Manson, from Thurso, were married here at the end of April. Dunrobin is a great location for wedding photography, due to the locely gardens, the fairytale-like castle building, and with loads of amazing indoor locations with lots of light if the weather isn’t good. Well this day wasn’t the best for weather, as there was showers of snow before the wedding and apparently the wedding party drove through a load of snow on the way down from Thurso. As Nicola and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the castle, it saved a lot of travelling and meant we were just in one venue for the entire day. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Susan Brown, who is the minister at Dornoch Cathedral, and she was her usual entertaining self, having everyone in stitches with her wit. After the ceremony despite the cold, it did brighten up briefly allowing us to get some outdoor images with the castle, but the gardens were definitely out of bounds for wedding dresses.

A fun day amongst a lot of old friends which made it very enjoyable.

A small selction from the day.

Engagement Photography Inverness – Fort George shoot

Donna Fleider and Andy Ross get married this summer, and chose Fort George for their pre wedding shoot. It was a cold day but we managed to get enough time in between rain showers to get some cool pictures around the Fort, before we headed off and did a few shots at a friends farm in the hay and I even found an old truck to use, so was in my element.

Pre Wedding Shoot Ardvreck Castle – Anna and Fraser

So it was second time lucky for this shoot, after the weather wrecked our plans the first time we planned it. Ardvreck Castle is a very cool ruined castle on the shore of Loch Assynt, up near Lochinver. Anna and Fraser were getting married later in the month so we were running out of dates for this shoot. The forecast was nice, but when I arrived up there it was absolutely baltic and there was a light shower of hailstones. This was not going to be a long shoot!

NNCMC – Music Photography

Last month saw me back at the Northern Nashville Country Music Festival, in Halkirk, Caithness. It is a huge and very popular event on the Country Music Circuit, and I have photographed it every year since it began, so was delighted to be invited back again by the committee. I love shooting live music events, so this is a great chance to get some cool images. There were bands from all over the world, including the USA, Netherlands, Ireland,England and of course Scotland, including some local Caithness acts.

Scottish Master Photographers Awards 2012

I recently attended the Scottish Regional MPA annual awards event  at the Novotel Edinburgh Park

It was a great day, and lovely to meet up with so many friends in the industry. There was a seminar by well known businessman Gerald Ratner, which I found totally inspirational and also very entertaining. The awards attracted a huge number of entries and the standard was very high, as pointed out by the judges. I was absolutely thrilled to win the Contemporary Portrait category with this image below of Jade Hunt, who won Face of Glasgow and more recently Miss Galaxy Scotland:

I was also chuffed to get a Merit Award in Pets and Animals for this image of a Highland Bull.

Phuket Engagement Photograhy Shoot – Debbie and Gary

When Debbie  Denoon and Gary Weir booked me for their 2012 wedding, it then turned out that Debbie was going to be a bridesmaid at Alisha and Scott’s wedding in Phuket so we decided to set aside some time to do their pre wedding shoot over there on the beach. So on the Friday afternoon we headed down to Kata Beach in the hope of a nice sunset, but it was a very overcast day so we never got lucky on that score. However we did have some fun and got some nice images. Looking forward to their wedding in June!

Alison and Barry – Wedding Photography Boath House, Nairn

Another lovely, small wedding, this time at Boath House, near Nairn. It was the wedding of Alison Helm and Barry James, who live in Edinburgh. The day began at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness where Alison was getting ready, before heading through to Boath House for the ceremony and reception. It was a bit of a wet day, but we managed to get some shots outside under the shelter of trees and pillars, before continuing the shoot indoors.

Wedding Photography Highlands – Louise and Don, Strathpeffer.

This was a Thursday wedding at the Ben Wyvis Hotel, Strathpeffer, where Louise Farquhar and Don Sutherland were married. The couple had a small family wedding and then had a reception up in Wick the following week at the Norseman Hotel. This was a really fun day, and we ended up doing some really cool stuff in a graveyard, where we tried to create a’Twilight’, or ‘True Blood’ feel to some of the images. Absolutely delighted with how they turned out. It was a lovely relaxed day amongst friends. I was lucky enough to meet up for a night out with Louise and Don on their honeymoon in Thailand as well, which was fantastic.

Here are some images from the wedding day:

Wedding Photography Inverness – Jennifer & Niall at Dalcross Castle

Jennifer Fraser and Niall Farquhar chose the magnificent venue of Dalcross Castle, near Inverness for their wedding. It was a glorious day, and another afternoon when I was thinking it was too nice. We started off with shots in the room before Jen was piped down to the garden for the ceremony by Spud The Piper. Afterwards we had some fun taking photographs around the castle and grounds before heading in to the marquee for speeches, a lovely meal and the dance.

Here are a selection of the images from the day
